Reflections

During the winter, my photography friends and I frequently go to a local botanical garden to make photographs. This has especially been the case this winter, as it has been exceedingly cold, even for a Pittsburgh winter. But, while you might think the flowers would be the main attraction (and they sort of are), I have been obsessed with photographing something much more inanimate.

There is a fountain at one end of the garden which intermittently throws jets of water up into the air, and when this happens the surface of the water has waves and ripples. Directly above the fountain are the glass windows of the greenhouse and the ripples distort the reflected rectangular window shapes, making what can only be described as a psychedelic backdrop from a 1960s Go-Go (how many of you are old enough to remember that?). Here are a of couple examples.

And in case you aren’t familiar with a 1960s Go-Go, here is a special 1967 treat for you (note the 15 cents for a coffee and 50 cent cover charge!), from an episode of Mannix (remember that?). And what band is it that made a cameo appearance, playing their music, in this scene from the show? There were several notable bands that spawned from this one! If you know the band, say so below in the comments! Oh, and extra points for the title of the song!
