Lightroom Color Mixer vs Calibration Panels

 

Most photographers have a very intuitive feel for how the color mixer in Lightroom works. It's meant to be self-explanatory. You just pick the color(s) in your image you want to change, then move the hue, saturation, or luminosity sliders to achieve the look you're after within those colors. Easy!

On the other hand, most people have an inherent fear of playing in the calibration panel, fearing they will somehow ruin their image. But giving into that fear results in losing a processing option that can yield very interesting, creative, and often unexpected results, both in realistic and abstract work.

I made a short video in which I have explained the difference between the color mixer and the calibration panel in a way that I hope allays those fears, demonstrates the very cool creative possibilities that can result from playing in the calibration panel, and hopefully motivates you to give it a whirl. 

And remember, any slider can always be moved back to its zero position very easily :)
