Quick Quotes: Minor White, Duane Michals, Nancy Rotenberg

Today I have a Quick Quote threefer....three different photographers from two different eras whose quotes, to me, all express the same idea.  That idea, which would be very hard to take issue with, is that in order to make good photographs one has to go much deeper than what is apparent on the surface of any subject:

"One should not only photograph things for what they are but for what else they are"

Minor White

"Photography deals exquisitely with appearances, but nothing is what it appears to be."

Duane Michals

"When photographing, go beyond the handshake"

Nancy Rotenberg
