Do You Have To Share?

I ran across this interesting video on YouTube by Alex Kilbee and The Photographic Eye. The video is about sharing your work and, while I can’t say that I totally agree with everything that is said, I do completely agree with the main thesis. There are some very good thoughts and ideas to ponder in it.

I do think there is a very real role for having an audience for your photography and believe that the narrator agrees. His main thesis (and the point of the video) is that the primary reason to make photographs should be for the joy you get by doing so. I’m totally on board with that. Moreover, and perhaps more to the point, I think that if one is doing it for joy and to please themselves first, then the audience he or she gets is more likely to be truly interested in their work.

I thought it was an interesting video and one worth sharing. What are your thoughts?
