Abandoned Barn

I wonder why, as photographers, we find abandoned places so irresistibly attractive. Is it a sense of nostalgia? Is it because using a camera we become very aware of time, catching life in fractions of a second? Is it because it feels like traveling back in time when we stand before abandoned locations? Or is it just a natural human feeling to wonder what came before?

This particular abandoned barn (and a farmhouse that accompanied it) was seen on my recent trip to the Columbia River Gorge.
