Don't Bug Me!

Sometimes one is so focused on what they are doing that it can be hard to see the big picture. Dare I say hard to see the forest from the trees. Or something like that.

I had taken a series of photos at Jennings Environmental Education Center (more on Jennings in the next few posts) and hiking out ran across some of these beautiful yellow flowers. I had to stop and do a bit of macro photography since the wind was cooperating (which is not that common on a prairie). I really enjoyed this shot and between taking it, processing it in Lightroom, and then bringing it into Photoshop for finishing touches spent a fair amount of time on the photograph.

Despite having looked and assessed and worked on the photo for so long I somehow never saw the rather large out of focus insect on right center of the flower. How do you miss something like that going through so many steps? I tried many ways of removing it but none of them resulted in a natural looking result.

I showed it to my friends on our Sunday morning Zoom Covid-era photography meeting where we share our work. I thought maybe I was too focused on what distracts. “so guys, what do you see?’….'“a big bug on your flower”. Oh well…lesson learned. Look at the big picture objectively first!
