Seagulls On Bandon Beach

When I was working in Oregon a couple weeks ago, the state parks were just starting to reopen. As I mentioned a couple of posts back, the beaches in Oregon are cool and windy; there aren’t crowds or sunbathers….just people taking walks, so I felt quite safe going there. And shooting at Bandon Beach is always a treat in any weather or season.

I noticed there was a sea stack that a lot of seagulls would land on, hang out for a few minutes, and then take off from. I started taking some pictures turning the seagulls into darker silhouettes and then had this idea of catching one just as it spread its wings and was about to take off. The sea stack was a bit out in the ocean and the tide was coming in, so I couldn’t get too close to it. But I did have my 100-400mm lens and was able to use that at the long end, and after a bit of waiting (seemed like forever, but it really wasn’t all that long) I was able to finally get what I wanted. It even managed to be sharp even with the long focal length and the wind blowing. The sky was a bit on the bland side, so I decided to add in a texture in order to come up with this image as the end result.
