McCullough Bridge From Afar

Before I was able to find a good vantage point from which to photograph the McCullough Bridge, I was driving around and searching for the right location. I found myself on the far side of the bridge and pulled off the road. I realized that I had not yet found the view I was looking for, but was determined to make something of my search that day.

So I started to make abstract images of the bridge from afar. The ‘look’ I finally settled on was made by putting both a polarizer and a neutral density filter on the front of my 100-400mm lens to allow for a long shutter speed. Then, during the long exposure, I zoomed the lens with the shutter open. I made many of these images, zooming at various speeds and between different focal lengths. When I took the images into Lightroom, I saw one or two that really gave the look I envisioned and brought them into Photoshop to apply the finishing touches.
