Look All Around

Sometimes, when I go out to photograph, I get to a location and am immediately drawn to one specific part of a scene. Needless to say, it’s important to keep an open mind after having photographed what it is that initially drew my attention. I have to remember to look all around.

This particular location, which was right across the street from the motel I was staying in, proved to be a fruitful spot to photograph on a very productive morning. In fact, by literally moving my tripod only three or four feet, I was able to capture the images I recently posted of pylons, the tugboat, and this silhouette of a moored ship during the ‘blue hour’ before sunrise.

It is interesting that on some days, like this particular one, I can go out and seem to be open and receptive and really see things (these are not only images that I like from this one location), and other days I really work at it and still can’t see much. I suspect that you may have quite similar experiences.

As I looked around, I thought that this portion of the ship against the early morning blue sky made for an interesting composition.
