Sunset Bay

A few weeks ago, I posted a panoramic image of Sunset Bay. And while in that photo I wanted to show the entire scene in one image, there were also many other compositions to be had. In the photo below, I was able to utilize a telephoto lens in order to isolate a small segment of what was seen in the distance. I liked the look of the water being smoothed out by using a neutral density filter to lengthen the exposure. I was also drawn to the way the cliffs had warm tones while the water reflected the cool tones of the open sky. I’m a believer in ‘working the scene’, and I hope to go back to Sunset Bay in coming weeks and months to photograph it in the different quality of light that spring brings.
