LensWork's 'Our Magnificent Planet'

I was very pleased to have one of my photographs chosen for inclusion in this years LensWork ‘end of the year’ book publication entitled ‘Our Magnificent Planet’. This year the publication changed from six image projects to single images celebrating, well, our magnificent planet. This is the photo that was chosen for publication.

I will always remember the story behind the photo that comprises the image base. I was driving my then young son to a fencing match in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, when I passed this tree by a farmhouse on a foggy morning. It wasn’t far to the sports venue and I remember thinking that the tree would make an interesting photo. I even had my camera with me, as I was planning to take some photos of my son fencing. Right after we passed the tree he said “Hey dad, you should take a picture of that tree. It looks pretty cool”. I knew he was right, but I had to get him to the venue and told him that I had to make sure to get him where he needed to go on time. He said the venue was only about a mile away and that I should drop him off and make the photo while he changed into his gear and warmed up.

I’m glad I took his advice!
