Going Back

A few weeks ago I posted an image of the sun setting through the opening in Elephant Rock. I was late to the party (that happens) and really just had time for some phone shots and the sun was slightly behind the rock and there was flare etc. But I really liked the shot and the premise, so I had to go back the next day.

This time I backed off a bit for a slightly different composition, got the sun right in the center of the opening, and shot an HDR sequence given that the sun was so incredibly bright and the face of the rock cliff was in shade. I try to avoid HDR but there was no way around it here. I try to process my HDR shots with a natural look, reproducing what you could see if you were actually standing there. This is the result of that effort.

Someone had pointed out that the opening in the rock looks like George Washington!
