Coquille And Kites

When I was last in Oregon, I decided to drive along the Coquille River in order to photograph the Coquille Lighthouse (or, as it is called locally, the Coquille Light). I knew I would have to use my telephoto lens, as the river is actually quite wide. As I was setting my camera and tripod up I noticed ‘something’ in the air around the lighthouse. Were they seagulls? They looked unusual for seagulls, as they didn’t seem to be going anywhere. A look through the lens confirmed this. They were kites!

I had been to this lighthouse several times before and had never seen any kites, but now the sky was filled with them!
