Elakala Falls II; More Time In Motion

In my last post, I wrote about about Elakala Falls in West Virginia’s Blackwater Falls State Park. Here is something unusual about Elakala: there are actually four separate Elakala Falls. Numbers 1 and 2 are quite close to each other, while numbers 3 and 4 are further away and become more inaccessible to the casual hiker/climber.

While the last post featured Elakala Falls #1, this one features Elakala #2. Each is quite beautiful in its own right. Truth be told, I didn’t make it to numbers 3 and 4. I took this photograph as a long exposure on a lark, hoping that it might bring out some pattern in the water that I couldn’t see. In the last post, I had recognized that there was a pattern that would emerge during a long exposure just from watching the water, but not so for this one. So, I was happily surprised when the white streaks adjacent to the rocks became visible in this 13 second exposure.

I definitely plan to go back to the park. There really are quite a number of photographs to be had there!
