Framing Your Artwork

Framing artwork can definitely be confusing. Should the work be displayed with the white border and signature showing or should the matboard extend over the edge of the print, thereby hiding both the border and the signature? How many inches of matboard should be used? Should the matting be white or should it be a color that compliments the art. How wide and ornate a frame should be used and what color should it be?

Luckily, there are no right or wrong answers to these questions. While there are some general guidelines, the choices are, to a large degree, a matter of personal taste. In addition, the decor and style of your home or workplace will also play a role in these decisions.

Dimensions

The measurements given for each print are rounded to the nearest half inch and include the white border. As indicated for each print, the size of the border varies with image size and is meant to offer the greatest number of options for framing. The border allows the signature and variable amounts of the paper to be displayed, if so desired. The specific frame size will depend on how much, if any, of the border is displayed, how many inches of matting is desired, and if you want the matting around the print to be symmetrical. I have included enough border to suit every possible option.

While I would be glad to make recommendations, bringing the print to a frame shop will likely give the best results, as the framer can discuss and show you all the available options to fit your decor.
