New Life

When I’m processing my multiple exposure abstracts, I don’t typically see ‘a thing’ in the image right away. When trying to come up with a title for the photo, I often look at the image until I start to see something and use what I see to inspire the title. But every so often, I do immediately identify an object in the image even before processing it fully.

Interpretation can be like a Rorschach test. But what one sees is likely determined by many variables, including their background, interests, and profession. And today’s image is definitely one where I immediately saw something, and what I saw is surely related to my medical background. Before reading what I saw, what, if anything, do you see? Do you think your background affects your interpretation?

I came up with the title “New Life” because what I see is an egg cell being fertilized by a sperm cell penetrating its cell membrane at the upper left, with the thick black lines, surrounded by white, representing the chromosomes inside the cell. Can you see that? I would really love to hear what you see in this photograph!
