Unexpected Consistency

I recently went out to do some winter shooting (I am making a concerted effort to do that) and took this photo, which I felt looked best when converted to black and white. I took the photo at a marsh I have photographed many times. While keywording the photos from that outing, I had the opportunity to look through some of the images I had taken of the same area in the past.

While I was looking them over I noticed this photograph that I had taken of the same part of the marsh back in 2006.

What I found interesting was that they were taken in different seasons and 16 years apart, and yet the composition of the two photos is remarkably similar. My eyes were drawn to the exact same set of trees and I had framed them in a very similar way, just using a longer focal length this time around. Consistency over 16 years. Good? Bad? I’m not sure….but definitely interesting.

Do you find that when you return to the same area you sometimes make photos that are similar to ones you have made in the past?
