Nature Always Takes Over

On my recent trip to the Columbia River Gorge with a fellow photographer, we ran across an old abandoned car. It seemed to have been there for many decades and nature was reclaiming it with flowers, for the time being anyway. It really made for an interesting sight.

I wish I could say that this was a fresh discovery we were lucky enough to find that hadn’t been photographed before. That isn’t the case. As often happens these days, we politely shared the location with about a dozen other photographers who had located it as well. It apparently is a ‘well known’ abandoned car. Most of the other photographers were quite polite as well…..but there is always that one person…..

In this case, while there really were plenty of flowers, I wanted the car to look overrun with them. I therefore used the effect of a long lens to compress the scene by moving far from the car, across the field of flowers, and making the photograph using a 400mm lens. That gave me the effect I was looking for. I was able to get quite a few shots closer up as well.
