Timing Is Everything

Two days ago, after work, I thought that I would have just enough time to drive down to Bandon Beach to make some photographs before it got dark. I though I could make the 25 minute car ride and get there just before sunset. As I descended the stairs to the beach (I believe there are over 150 stairs down, so there was plenty of time to contemplate - and thats just going down….it seems like twice that number going back up :) I found myself wondering where the sun would be in relation to the opening in Elephant Rock. My interest was piqued because Gunta had commented on my prior Elephant Rock post that at some times of the year you can see light rays coming through the opening, as seen in the post on her blog.

It turned out that I was actually running a bit late, as it took longer than I expected to get my ‘stuff’ together after work and get out of the motel. I quickly made my way over to Elephant Rock, and, though there weren’t light rays coming through, I was nonetheless treated to another spectacular sight. I immediately got my phone out to try to capture it before it disappeared, as I didn’t think I would have enough time to set up me bigger gear:

I did get my dSLR set up on my tripod and get a few quick shots in before it was too late. I am not yet sure if I was able to capture it. I think I will just allow myself to be pleased (or disappointed a bit) once I get home and can work on my desktop. But I know that at least I have this image of the moment!
