More Bandon Blues

I had the opportunity to photograph for two or three days at the surreal landscape that is Bandon Beach, Oregon. During the post sunset ‘blue hour’, special things start to happen. So if the sunset isn’t particularly colorful (as this one wasn’t) it pays to not leave in order to see what develops after the sun goes down.

The rock on the right side of the photo is known as Face Rock…..see how it looks like a view of a face (as seen from the side) gazing upwards, with the left side of the rock looking like the top of the head and forehead. The nose and mouth are seen on the right side of the rock. Curious about how it came to be called Face Rock, besides the fact that it looks like a face? There is a Native American legend that explains it, and it goes like this.

When I made this photograph, I was composing for a ‘minimalist look’. A long exposure gave the water a ‘glassy’ appearance which, to me, also imparts a peaceful and quiet look, which I think pairs well with minimalist.
