The Carrie Furnace I

The Carrie Furnace, located in Rankin, PA, is an abandoned blast furnace that was used to produce iron for close to 100 years.  It was closed in the 1970s.The audio clip describes how the furnace was opened and the molten iron allowed to drain out.

A view of the outside of one of two remaining furnaces on the Carrie site. At one time there were seven such furnaces in operation at once.
