Shadow Tree

Place: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Location: Mellon Park

I am intrigued by the shapes of bare trees in the fall and winter (which is totally at odds with my distate for cold weather!). Trees, when bare, seems stripped to their most basic underlying graphic form.

When I began looking for ways to depict this, it became clear to me that color distracted from this underlying theme while a sepia toned monochromatic image seemed to best convey the idea. This particular tree can be seen in my image entitled "Lonely" from the Pittsburgh Parks Portfolio. It is either the tree on the right of the frame, or the next one over, just out of the frame (I honestly can't remember which).
