Downcomers II - The Carrie Furnace
Downcomer seen at The Carrie Furnace, an abandoned blast furnace in Western Pennsylvania, that was closed in the late 1970s. The downcomers collected waste from the iron making process.
The downcomers collected the soot and dust coming out of the furnace. However, as explained in the audio segment, the dust itself contained residual iron and every attempt was made to recycle and reclaim the metal in order not to let it go to waste.
